Local tourism in the area To the East within an hour's car drive lie Sarlat and the many beauty spots which comprise the Perigord Noir as well as the Vézère valley with its numerous prehistorical caves (Lascaux), and to the West, also within an hour by car are St Emilion and the vineyards of the Bordeaux region. To the South are the rolling hills of the southern part of the Dordogne and the Lot et Garonne with the many "bastide" towns (Issigeac, Monpazier, Molière, Villefranche du Périgord etc.) and fine castles which were witnesses to the first English invasion of Aquitaine and to the North, Périgueux, the charming préfecture of the Dordogne department with its Roman and gallo-Roman vestiges, the Perigord Museum and the medieval streets now occupied by numerous boutiques.
Horse or pony riding are available at three nearby centres, with excursions out into the surrounding countryside, where many rambles or mountainbike circuits are to be appreciated by those who prefer walking or cycling. A nine hole golf course is open to the public in near by Mouleydier as well as an 18 hole course at Le Chateau de Vigiers near Monestier (25kms). Free fall parachuting can be enjoyed at Bergerac airport and canoeing, sailing or water-skiing on the Dordogne river are other open-air activities available nearby.
